What’s sweet, loved by bears and is an endearing name for your mate?  Honey, of course!  While we could name a million ways in which we find honey sweet, the sweetest thing about this little treat is its ability to provide long-lasting energy. Whether you’re looking for the energy to get your through your morning run, or you’re about to set out on a long weekend ride, honey can give you the energy your body craves.

 

According to a study from the University of Memphis, eating just one tablespoon of honey can give you the energy you need to get through a long workout without letting your energy levels dip. You may be asking yourself how such a sugary-sweet substance can give you energy that lasts and lasts: Doesn’t eating sugar make your blood sugar levels spike and then drop, leaving you feel tired and listless?


Just remember, all sugars are not created equal. Yes, it’s not a smart idea to try and get lasting energy out of a spoonful of the white stuff (table sugar), but the molecular makeup of honey is more complex and breaks down more slowly in the body, giving you a steady stream of energy that’ll keep your energy levels high. If the idea of slurping on a spoonful of honey isn’t your idea of a good time, try adding honey to a cup of hot tea or to a bowl of hot oatmeal.


Did you know that one bee contributes only just one-twelfth of a teaspoon of honey? Over her entire life? 
And there are 3 teaspoons in a tablespoon. So for one single tablespoon of honey, that took the life's work of 36 bees. 
1/12th of a teaspoon of honey over a lifetime seems like such a small contribution.
